YWCA Executive Director: Reflections of Gratitude for our
Supporters
Dear Friend,
For myself and many of
you, this holiday season provided much needed, quiet moments of reflection on
how we can individually and collectively create a more just future. It is
during those moments that I reflected on the deep gratitude I feel for our YWCA
supporters. Your commitment, care and enthusiasm for our work renews my energy,
and I channel this into my daily efforts to ensure that the YWCA is always
positioned as an agent of change, equipped to address the pressing social
issues that demand our attention.
I
find myself touched by the extraordinary support the YWCA family has received
from all of you this past holiday season. This has been an amazing year for our
organization, filled with success stories of the women and families who needed
us and were able to find safety, shelter and rebuild their lives as a result of
our collective efforts. I am excited to share our 2019 infographic that charts
in numbers, our programmatic impact. From individual donors, to community
civic groups, to local businesses, YOU rallied around us with your generous
gifts for families in need through our Adopt-A-Family program and with your
generous support to our year end donation appeal.
YWCA
is committed to being a bold, fearless voice in a world where every day we are
needed by survivors of violence, communities marginalized by racism and
injustice, and families struggling to keep their heads above water. Our
consistent and unwavering response is possible because you gave,
volunteered, told someone about us, or referred someone to one of our programs.
Every action you took on behalf of YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism and
empower women is highly valued and serves as another brick, strengthening
our foundation.
I
am excited for what will build together in this new year and decade. I look
forward to updating you with information on racial and social justice
initiatives, our signature Legacy Luncheon and Heart & Excellence Awards,
community events, empowerment education programs, and new opportunities for you
to connect with us this year. We have a robust calendar of events for
2020 and we would be honored for you to be a part of what we have in store this
year.
Thank you again, and my warmest wishes for a Happy and Healthy New
Year!
Sincere Regards,
Tara Peterson,
The winter holidays marks a special time when our community
comes to together to support families in need. The outpouring of generosity we
received this season was no exception. Not only did our Giving Tuesday and year
end appeal well exceed our goal, but we served a record number of women and
children through our Adopt-A-Family Program and we formed a beautiful partnership
with DishDivvy for individuals to donate warm, home-cooked meals to our participants.
The gratitude we feel is boundless. For the families receiving
our domestic violence services, your support is life-changing.
- Because
of you, nearly 100 children experienced a bright, joyful holiday free from
violence.
- Because
of you, mothers struggling to rebuild their lives after fleeing their
abuser were uplifted by the care and compassion of her neighbors.
- Because
of you, families staying at our Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter enjoyed their
first holiday together in a safe, supportive setting.
- Because
of you, families starting their new lives felt the warm embrace of a
home-cooked meal.
- And
because of you, YWCA Glendale can continue to offer comprehensive domestic
violence services and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Ticket sales are now open for our April 15, 2020 Legacy Luncheon! Stay tuned as we announce this year's Heart & Excellence Honorees later this month...
